Slide ABOUT US ONE TO A THOUSAND We are a community of creatives working to inspire each other to create beautiful and representative works through collaboration between diverse mediums and minds.

Originally started as a small weekly challenge where writers and artists prompted each other with stories and visual works, One to a Thousand has grown to a community of creators from all backgrounds. While we continue the weekly challenge that inspired our name, we now showcase creations from a variety of mediums, host a community for creators to inspire and encourage one another, bring in interviews and tips from creators in various stages of their careers, and combine the best of our content into a quarterly magazine (coming January 2021).

It is our hope that we can foster growth, encouragement, and kindness between creators of all mediums, backgrounds, and skill levels as we all work to make the world a more beautiful place. If you share this vision, take a look around more—we’d love to have you join us.

Slide MEET THE FOUNDERS Nadia Rausa is a Korean-American artist and creator from Alaska, USA with an Associates in Art from the University of Alaska Anchorage/Mat-Su College. Her work has been described as elegantly dark and ethereal. She uses her own mental health, cultural, and other struggles and her love of Korean culture, nature, symbolism, psychology, and spirituality as inspiration for her work. Inspired also by fantasy and folklore, her work can be interpreted in many ways. Her mediums include drawing/painting, writing, surface and pattern design, handmade artisan methods such as embroidery, needle-felting, & bookbinding, and photography.

Nadia’s goal is to always bring some magic and love into the world via her work, while representing her love of fantasy and advocating mental health, spiritual/religious freedom, and POC & LGBTQ+ communities.

She is also the co-owner and co-founder of Drakon & Harmoness, a game and stationary company in the works by her and her husband, Micah Rausa. They hope to officially launch in 2021-2022 with their first game and stationary collection.

Outside of work, Nadia loves videogames, hiking, reading horror and fantasy novels, spending time with her husband, Micah, and cat, Tabby, and studying herbology. She is also a mental health advocate and counselor at her small Korean church where her and Micah help plan fun events for kids. She is also studying to become an esthetician as work outside of creating.

J. L. Chabotte is a writer in Wasilla, AK, USA. A lifelong resident of Alaska, she draws inspiration from the majestic environment around her as she attempts to infuse some small part of that life-filled feeling into her writing and art. She has written poetry and short stories since elementary school, and recently made the move to full-time writing as she takes up longer writing projects. Her writing drifts between horror and fantasy, with some light sci-fi, and attempts to examine the truths and lies of our daily lives in new light.

Outside of writing, she also enjoys creating with photography, painting, sketching, and sculpting. She is shyer about her art than her writing though, so for now those pieces live in sketchbooks and the back of storage spaces. She has worked as a photographer for R2C2 Studios and now does photography as side work.

J. L. is a strong supporter of community and getting involved with the people that surround one’s self. She volunteers regularly with her church and local theatre (though 2020 has provided fewer opportunities for this than normal). She also enjoys reading a variety of genres, watching movies with her family, playing games with her husband, and hiking with her friends and her dog, Jack. Whatever she does, she tries to find the story that is involved, to examine how well that story has been communicated, and to imagine all the ways that story might develop.
